This initial iteration of The Steve Miller Band is a blues/rock band I suppose with hits like 'Living in the USA' and others. But curiously it was 'Dear Mary', hardly a rocker, that turned me to their musicianship. 'Song for Our Ancestors' precedes this on the album and the two together are better than either by itself.5/5(3).

Sailor is the second album by American rock group The Steve Miller Band, released in October by Capitol Records. Like the band's previous album, Children of the Future, Sailor was produced by Glyn Johns. Unlike its predecessor which was recorded in London, England, Sailor was recorded in Los Angeles, California. It was the last Steve Miller Band album to feature contributions by original members Boz Scaggs and Jim Peterman.

From this was the second Steve Miller Band album and the last to feature Boz Scaggs before he attained super stardom. It's a mixed bag - of its time perhaps - but the good tracks - are still great. (and it is a lot more "poppy" than you might think. - Not surprising that Paul McCartney played on the follow up).
